  • Is non-attachment a key to healthy relationships?   4 days 8 hours ago

    Hi!
I'm so glad I came across this article!! Thank you for writing about this subject.

I would love to get in touch with you via email to talk about this in a bit more depth if you are interested. I am currently undertaking a dissertation study that looks at non-attachment and intimate relationships. Hope you don't mind me attaching the official research invitation below. This is open to anyone who fits with the criteria. Only problem being, I live in the UK - but I am willing to consider doing Skype interviews if there is anyone interested. If not, just a sharing of views via email would be also REALLY helpful :)

Invitation to take part in a study

I am a student at the University of East London, studying on the MSc in Positive Psychology. I would like to invite you to participate in a dissertation study titled: “An exploration of the concept of non-attachment and it’s manifestation within relationships: a grounded theory study”.

Your participation would consist of an hour long interview, the aim of which will be to explore your experiences, opinions and beliefs about the concept of non-attachment, and how it manifests in your day-to-day life with a particular emphasis on intimate relationships.

If you wish to take part in this study, it is important that you can identify with the following description of non-attachment:

“Non-attachment is the end result of the process of letting go. When you are in a state of non-attachment you posses a sense of knowing that everything simply is. Although you continue to strive towards your preferred life situation, you remain unattached to the outcome. In any situation you may find yourself, you feel no unnecessary stress or frustration, and you face life with no fear of losing what you have. The state of non-attachment leads you to experiencing frequent feelings of love, freedom, tranquillity and compassion.

You see what is, not what you want. Accept what is, rather than struggle to control.”

The interviews will take place at a mutually convenient public location, where there will be ‘quiet room’ facilities available for the interviews.

This article was mentioned to me, as a potential(!) student of O.T., and so I set about tracing it,
by the ingenious means of 'google', in order to thoroughly plagiarize it and sham myself into an O.T. course... Is the possession of a menagerie a necessary or sufficient credential, do you think?

  • Are Western Societies Guilty of Trivialising Female-on-Male Violence?   3 weeks 6 days ago

We live in a world that can't "do" complicated, of course violence against women is abhorrent but then again all violence is wrong, it's not an effective way to progress anything much but presents apparently simple solutions to one party or the other in the face of power imbalance and inequalities. You'll never get your perspective accepted by the groups that hold the view espoused above because you are trying to show that the issue isn't simple and that different perspective pose harder questions than the gross simplification of the issues. But simplification creates slogans and people can be far more easily be persuaded to gather under a simple single issue approach that saying "we think this is a problem but it's quite complicated and women aren't the only part of human societies that suffer inequality and violent treatment". I don't understand why the view that many women are vulnerable to violence mutually excludes acknowledgement that men also suffer higher levels of violence but in different contexts.

I have nothing specific against these modalities, and in my blog you'll see that I have posted on the use of acupuncture, hypnosis and mindfulness meditation - but in these cases, there is randomised, controlled clinical trial evidence to support their use.

I am very sympathetic to your article.
Many people in this materialistic and atheistic society still believe in deeper things, and to rob them of knowledge of their medical condition is a form of violence.
The doctor you speak of sounds like a lazy and smug git, and he should at least have wanted to investigate for the good of his patient. The GMC guideline you quoted sounds very deeply thought out, favouring difficult conversations over lazy evasions, for the good of the patient.
Good luck in your research and work.

Thank you for your comment. I agree with your analysis. I find the first quote equally repulsive though. So many men are attracted to the aesthetic facade and stay in unhealthy relationships just because of 'beauty'. I wonder whether they have any idea that their attachments are damaging their health.

Ok - so I'm not going to comment on the first quote - but I have to say I find the whole 'Twilight Obsession' annoying.....

Edward is a vampire - or typical UNAVAILABLE man. To call him the 'perfect guy' is ridiculous. I think it's sad that a lot of women in this society are so attracted to men that do not possess the capacity to be truely present in a relationship. The challenge or 'chase' in catching the un-gettable guy is just plain ol' fear of intimacy....

It really is too bad, because there are a lot of available, present, REAL men, but they are all too often overlooked.

    sad, sad, sad...

  • Exercise makes a differance at the cellular level.   17 weeks 3 days ago

Exercise is indeed very very important. Well, I know for the fact that it is. But I don't spare time to do it. However, after reading the content of this blog, I am now thinking twice. I should find way to do some exercise to live a longer and healthy life.

I kind of agree. I think, although dying is not something you must look forward to...it must be something you accept. Everybody dies and being forewarned is part of the acceptance.

  • The Use of Animals in Occupational Therapy   19 weeks 3 days ago

I'm guessing you have never had a relationship with an animal, or have been blessed by being comforted by a dog while you have cried, or watched a child come out of their shell and talk for the first time in weeks because he had the comfort and connection of an calm nonjudgmental loyal pet. Unless you come with the mentality of the last century animals other than humans indeed have feelings and sustain emotional connections. This isn't even up for discussion, its ridiculous. Either you are autistic yourself and can't feel or see relationships and animals displaying emotion or you are some cold bastard who shouldn't be in the field that involves recognizing and connecting with other living things.

  • Chronic back pain: A case study from practice   19 weeks 4 days ago

Chronic Back Pain was caused by the bad habit of the previous activities, like lifting too much heavy stuff in improper way, wrong exercises, carrying backpack with too heavy stuff in, or even a previous accident happened to you.
The best tips on getting this chronic back pain are avoiding those activities, consult to the Doctor and do regularly health exercise with the experts.
I agree with Mr. Roger that every health problem can be cured and recovered as long as we do some effort.

  • Chronic back pain: A case study from practice   21 weeks 3 days ago

Every health condition cures better if the patient is motivated to get cured. Chronic back pain is a serious condition if left untreated and I don't think going with one form of treatment is enough. Exercises combined with anabolic steroids injections an massage would have greater efficiency.
